Hexile Rules
Overview
Hexile is a collaborative tile-placement game for 3-6 players. Your goal is to work together to place tiles on a hexagonal board, creating features (complete hexagons) while managing bugs.
The Board
The board consists of hexagons arranged in an axial coordinate system. Each hexagon contains 6 triangular faces (numbered 0-5 clockwise). Players take turns placing tiles on empty faces.
Tiles & Categories
There are 165 unique tiles, each combining 3 subcategories:
- Frontend: HTML/CSS, React, Vue
- Backend: REST, GraphQL, gRPC
- Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, Serverless
Bugs & Scoring
When placing a tile, its edges are checked against adjacent tiles:
- Same subcategory: No bug (+1 point)
- Same category, different sub: Minor bug (-1 point, yellow marker)
- Different category: Critical bug (-3 points, red token from shared pool of 10)
Features
When all 6 faces of a hexagon are filled, it becomes a complete feature. Features are scored and removed.
- Bugfree feature: +10 points for last player to contribute
- Bugged feature: +5 points for last player
- Team bonus: +1 point to every player who contributed
Win/Lose/Crash
- Win: Complete 10 bugfree features
- Crash: 10 critical tokens used (immediate loss)
- Lose: Deck runs out and you haven't won
Swaps
On your turn, instead of placing a tile, you can swap a hand tile to the bottom of the deck and draw a new one. This costs 1 point.
